Project *Today and Tomorrow* by Mariam Menteshashvili

Project name: *Today and Tomorrow*

Project description: This project explores the profound connection between contemporary art and the times we live in, as well as the dreams artists hold for the future.

Which of your artworks best represents the era we live in today, and why?

This question immediately brought to mind a photo I took in London a few years ago. When I first developed the photo at a film lab, I didn’t realize its significance. But now, when I look at it, I see it as a reflection of people trapped in big cities, chasing capitalist values and feeling stuck in the consumeristic samsara. This photo, along with the question, also reminds me of David Graeber’s work on modern work culture and its inherent meaninglessness. As an artist, you think you’ve escaped it, only to find yourself trapped in another kind of cycle.

Which of your artworks represents your hopes for the future?

The future is definitely going to be messy, but playful.
